A specific type of misalignment, an open bite, (or “anterior open bite”) is a condition in which the teeth do not meet correctly, and don’t contact each other when the patient bites down. This condition can be the result of the jaw sizes, or from certain habits, such as thumb sucking or incorrect swallowing.
Treatments may include addressing habits that have led to the condition as the first step, followed by the use of orthodontic appliances to correct the problem.
